The relationship between therapist and client is the most important part of the treatment process. Your first visit will be an opportunity for you to meet me and figure out whether we would work well together. The first appointment is primarily designed for you to discover if you are comfortable with me and the way in which I work. I will listen closely to you to develop an understanding of the hopes and concerns that bring you to therapy and to answer any questions that you have about the therapeutic process.
There is no specific time frame for therapy. Some people come for a few months and some come for many years. I will work with you on a plan for your treatment and you'll discuss goals you hope to achieve in therapy.
Most clients come in once per week however some come in less frequently. Clients generally come in weekly for at least the first 6 months of therapy. You and I will determine how often you will need to come in for sessions.
Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of therapy because successful therapy requires a high level of trust. With few exceptions, what you discuss in therapy will not be shared with others without your permission. Therapists are legally mandated to make certain disclosures in cases where there is suspicion of harm to yourself, harm to others, or child abuse. All disclosures will be discussed with you in advance.
I strive to make services available for everyone who needs them. I offer a flexible sliding scale so that I may help clients in circumstances of financial difficulty. I also accept several insurance plans.
Therapy is a place where you can talk about everything which you need to and feel safe and not judged. I will not judge or belittle you.
