About Me

Hi,  my name is Racquel, I was born in Jamaica and came to the United States at age 5 and was raised in the Bronx, NY.  My Mom was a single parent of 6 children who  eventually became a nurse in New York City. Growing up as a immigrant was challenging as I had to navigate two worlds, outside was American and inside our home it was Jamaican complete with rice and peas and stew chicken every Sunday.

I was always the one my friends would come to me to talk about whatever problems they were having, you could say I've been a counselor since I was around age 10.

I'm a graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY , with Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, it's a long story why I majored in journalism, I thought I wanted to be a fashion magazine editor.  I also minored in Sociology which is a subject of great interest to me.   I'm also a  graduate of  Hunter College School of Social Work  in New York City with a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work.   I am a warm and compassionate  psychotherapist who provides culturally competent therapy with an emphasis on mental health for Black women and girls.    I love the work that I do and I feel honored to help the people who chose me as their therapist.  Most of my clients come to me seeking help for anxiety, depression, racial  trauma, postpartum depression and anxiety, binge eating and body dysmorphia. If any of this sounds familiar to you, please reach out, together we can work towards the change you deserve to help you to lead a more fulfilling and happy life.

In addition to being a therapist, I love writing, reading, cooking, spending time with my family and friends and listening to music especially Prince, Beyonce , Lizzo, Megan thee Stallion  and Rihanna and dancing.  I look forward to helping you to shut down your inner critic and live your best life.

“My music is me letting the world know how confident I am in myself, and  me basically telling other women, and guys, how confident and how  comfortable I believe they should be.” – Megan thee Stallion

  "Cause I'm my own soulmate
I know how to love me
I know that I'm always gonna hold me down
Yeah, I'm my own soulmate
No, I'm never lonely
I know I'm a queen, but I don't need no crown "-Lizzo
